What are the biggest threats to seahorses?
Seahorses are threatened by overcollection for use as pets, curiosities (dried and sold as gifts) and traditional medicines. Because of their unique appearance, seahorses are often sold as souvenirs, ornaments, and jewelry. One of the biggest threats to seahorses is their popular use in traditional Chinese medicines. But the fishing of seahorses is also an important part of the economy in many developing countries. This makes seahorse conservation very challenging.
