How do you
tell the boys from the girls?
Most seahorses are sexually dimorphic. That's a fancy way of saying
the males look different from the females. One of the more obvious ways to
tell them apart is to look for the brooding pouch (all males have a pouch
for brooding the young on their bellies). Sometimes males have tails that
are longer than their trunks, whereas females have shorter tails compared to
their trunks. In many species, the males’ snouts are shorter and thicker
than the females'. |
