Are seahorses endangered?
Not officially. Because of their popularity for the hobby trade and traditional medicines, seahorses are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List. This does not mean that they are technically endangered, but it does mean that their populations are in trouble. The red list acts like a warning for species at risk. Over the past five years, some seahorse populations have declined by 50 percent!
