You are looking at a live images of our moon jelly exhibit (the lights are turned off at night). The animal on display is the Oregon moon jelly, Aurelia labiata.
Our JellyCam and SharkCams are undergoing upgrades. Keep your eye on our Home Page to see what we have in store.
What is what
The umbrella shaped body is called a bell.
Along the edges of the bell are the jelly's fringelike tentacles
Hanging from the center of the bell are the jelly's lacy oral arms, covered with stinging cells.
The purplish clover pattern in the middle of the jelly's bell are its gonads or reproductive organs.
If the camera is just right you might spot what looks like purple popcorn under one of the jellies' bell. What you are seeing are the newly hatched larvae of a female jelly.
