Teacher Resources

Teachers can have just as much fun as their students learning about the world of marine science with the Aquarium. Our teacher education program is growing every year.

Marine Science Curriculum

Marine Science Kits

Our education staff has developed loan kits for teachers to use in their classrooms. Topics include: sharks, whales, rocky shore invertebrates or seals, sea lions and sea otters and are designed to support the Aquarium’s statewide outreach efforts.  Each kit includes books, videos, touchable items such as real shark jaws and whale tooth models, plush animal models and a booklet of information and activities for the K-5 classroom.  Kits are available from select Educational Service Districts (ESD's) throughout the state.  Schools served by the following ESD's can check out a loan kit at no charge.

Please contact your local ESD to have one sent to your school.  Other schools and organizations can rent kits for $35 and the cost of shipping. A $100 refundable deposit is required to borrow or rent kits. Call (541) 867-3474, ext. 5222 or email marine science kits for more information.

Kit Application

Kit Contract

Please return completed applications at least 2 weeks before you would like a kit to arrive at your school.  Our loan kits are very popular, so scheduling in advance is required.

Curriculum online

We have placed our Resources and Curriculum on-line for you to use in the classroom or during your visit.  We've included guidebooks to make your field trip a educational experience and curriculum packets to go along with our Lab and Theater programs.  Each packet includes background information, lesson plans, fun activities.  All of our education materials have been aligned with the Oregon Department of Education and the National Education common curriculum goals and are designed to help students meet and exceed standards in several disciplines. These activities are designed to extend your trip to the Aquarium but can also be used as stand alone lessons.

Through the development of our Web Ed-Ventures, we've made quite a bit of interactive marine science curriculum available for download. Below you'll find links directly to the curriculum pages for each Web Ed-venture (use your back button to return) but be sure to explore each of the Ed-Ventures; there's something for everyone and you may find them useful for your students. As an added bonus, each year we make a whole curriculum packet available online for families that join us for Home School Days. All these activities, are drawn from our school program activities so check them out.
